OUR PHYSICIANS

Stephen H. Jaffe, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

After graduating from Princeton University, Dr. Jaffe received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, after which he served for two years as a Major in the United States Army.

Dr. Jaffe moved back across the Hudson River to New Jersey in 1973. He brought with him new and exciting ideas about the field of obstetrics. Along with advocating natural childbirth, Dr. Jaffe was the first OB/GYN in New Jersey to allow husbands to be present for cesarean deliveries. He has also been a major proponent of vaginal birth after cesarean section.

Some of Dr. Jaffe’s patients have been seeing him for decades because they appreciate his commitment to providing the highest level of care. All of his patients can rely on his years of experience and his integrity.   While he remains invested in the ideas he brought with him to Englewood Hospital, Dr. Jaffe is still open and receptive to new concepts that come his way. Today, Dr. Jaffe is proud to be an active participant in the Englewood Hospital Bloodless Surgery Program.

Harvey Y. Friedman, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Friedman is a graduate of the New York University School of Medicine; he received highest honors upon completion of his residency in the NYU/Bellevue Hospital system. Subsequently, he joined Dr. Jaffe’s practice in 1985 and moved to New Jersey. CWC (Comprehensive Women’s Care) is, in fact, an outgrowth of that earlier practice.

In addition to his private practice in medicine, Dr. Friedman has served as Associate Chief of Obstetrics at Englewood Hospital and he is currently on the Peer Review Committee. Known for his highly personalized care, he remains actively engaged in both obstetrics and innovations in pelvic surgery. His areas of interest include minimally invasive surgery, surgery to correct urinary incontinence, and endometrial ablation to control excessive uterine bleeding.

Dr. Friedman is married and has three children.

Hope R. Schlossberg, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Schlossberg is a New Jerseyite through and through.  She graduated from the Frisch School in Paramus, Cook College at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Piscataway.  She then completed her internship and residency just outside Philadelphia at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey.

Dr. Schlossberg’s love of medicine began growing up as the daughter of a family practitioner and blossomed from there.  Her father described obstetrics to her as a chance to take care of patients during “a happy time”. Furthermore, she was drawn to her specialty by the wider-reaching lure of practicing gynecology. At CWC, she enjoys taking care of women through all phases of life and her background allows her to practice medicine with a special deference to the laws of family purity.

Dr. Schlossberg originally hails from Wayne, New Jersey, where her parents still reside.  She is married to David J. Goodman and has four daughters.

Karen Lynn Patrusky, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Patrusky was born and raised in New York. She graduated cum laude from Tufts University and then went on to receive her medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Again, she graduated with honors and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Society.

She continued on at Mount Sinai Hospital to complete her residency and chief residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After her training, Dr. Patrusky remained in Manhattan for several years where she was both in private practice and part of the teaching staff at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

In September of 2000, Dr. Patrusky and her family moved to Bergen County and she joined Comprehensive Women’s Care. She is presently on staff at Englewood Hospital Medical Center and Hackensack University Hospital. Her particular interests in the field are diverse, running the gamut from adolescent to elder care—and most everything in between.

She is passionate about patient care and will take on high-risk cases to see them through. In addition, she is well trained in gynecologic procedures and surgeries. Dr. Patrusky is married to a urologist and has two children, a girl and a boy.

Madhuri Bewtra, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Bewtra grew up in Maryland and graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. She then attended Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, receiving her Medical Degree in 1997.

She returned to the East Coast and completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Downtown Hospital in New York City. For her work, she received the Berlex Best Teaching Resident Award. Dr. Bewtra has been in private practice in Bergen County, New Jersey for over 14 years and is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Her interest in women’s health beyond the strict purview of an OB-GYN began at a young age and has since carried over into her practice. She now provides care for women of all ages, including issues pertaining to contraceptive counseling, pregnancy, cervical health, menopause, and preventive medicine.

Dr. Bewtra is married and has three children, a boy and fraternal twins (boy & girl).

Zachary Merriam, D.O., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Zachary Merriam attended the New York Institute of Technology/New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, N.Y., where he obtained both his Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science, as well as his D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree in a seven-year combined B.S./D.O. program. After graduation, he went on to complete his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dr. Merriam is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been in private practice in Connecticut, as well as a staff attending at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Merriam chose to pursue a career in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the challenge of balancing quality primary healthcare with acute care and surgery.  He also sees a unique opportunity to encourage and educate women while improving their health awareness. In joining Comprehensive Women's Care, Dr. Merriam is dedicated to providing outstanding medical care and forming long-lasting relationships with the patients that he cares for.

Dr. Merriam is married and has two children.
